I Can, or the Multicultural Ichinoseki Communication and Network, which was previously known as Yu no Kai, is an organization dedicated to fostering cultural exchange and language learning. They offer free in-person Japanese language classes held at Nanohana Plaza 3rd floor, around a 5-minute walk from Ichinoseki Station. These classes are held on Wednesdays and Sundays (refer to the calander below). The classes cater to students at levels corresponding to JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) levels 4 and 3, which are suitable for beginners and those with some foundational knowledge of Japanese.

I Can also provides outreach classes for a fee. Instructors can travel to your location, delivering lessons to meet specific needs of the learners.

Throughout the year, I Can hosts a range of cultural events and activities, some which include traditional flower viewing (hanami) and involvement in local festivals. These events provide an opportunity to engage with Japanese culture, fostering a deeper appreciation of the customs and traditions linked to the language.

Furthermore, I Can extends its support to educational institutions by offering assistance to schools that cater to children whose first language is not Japanese. By addressing the unique challenges faced by these children, I Can plays a vital role in promoting multicultural understanding within the community.

I recently participated in a Japanese lesson, and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The class had students from various backgrounds and proficiency levels, creating a vibrant atmosphere for cultural exchange. During discussions, everyone brought their unique perspectives and experiences to the table. The instructor encouraged students to speak up and practice their Japanese language skills.

Having connections in a new city or country is always important, and these connections serve as a foundation for building a sense of community.

Having opportunities to learn, meet new people, and share information about living here is beneficial for the international community. It creates a network of support that can help ease the transition into a new environment, making it feel more welcoming.
